Light In The Dark

Light in the Dark is a 2D top-down pixel horror game that stands out for its uniquely eerie atmosphere and profound narrative style. The game places players in a dark and threatening world where they must interact with a variety of troubled NPCs (non-player characters). Each NPC has specific needs that players need to meet by providing appropriate assistance.
As players explore the dimly lit environment, their actions directly affect the world around them. By providing assistance, whether it is solving puzzles, giving comfort, or helping NPCs overcome their fears, players can gradually illuminate the surrounding area. The gradually spreading light not only illuminates the physical environment, but also symbolizes the positive impact the player has on the lives of NPCs.
The core theme of the game revolves around the idea that even small acts of kindness can have far-reaching effects. Light in the Dark encourages players to think about the importance of empathy and the chain reactions of their choices. The eerie pixel art style and atmospheric sound design further enhance the overall tension and uneasiness of the game, making those moments full of light and hope seem particularly strong.

Tutorial Design and Implementation

I designed and implemented the tutorial to help players quickly understand core mechanics, such as NPC interaction and puzzle-solving, emphasizing the importance of their actions in illuminating the world.

Enemy AI Pathfinding and Tracking

I developed algorithms for enemy AI pathfinding and tracking, allowing them to navigate the environment and effectively pursue players, adding tension to the gameplay.

Puzzle Design

I contributed to engaging and challenging puzzle designs, integrating them into the narrative to require critical thinking and problem-solving skills from players.

2D Art for Backgrounds

I created 2D backgrounds that set the game’s tone and atmosphere, aligning with the pixel horror aesthetic to enhance player immersion.
